As we approached Milwaukee, the kids were starving and we happened upon an amazing Mongolian BBQ place called BD’s Mongolian Grill. It’s a buffet of raw veggies, meats, noodles, and rice with various sauces. You assemble your bowl and then hand it to the cook who stir fries it up on a big flat wok. This place was not only beyond delicious, but it was also fun to do. The kids loved the idea of putting everything they liked in a bowl-veggies, noodles even tofu and sauces. They’ve also got an incredible selection of meats and seafood too. Once completed and stacked like Mt. Everest the kids handed their bowls to the chef who stir fried with precision, keeping everyone’s dish completely separate. When it was done in a matter of minutes, he scooped everyones meal up with these enormous chopsticks and plunked it right into a new bowl handing it to each kid. What’s also fantastic is that for one price you can go back as many times as you’d like. After 2 or 3 trips, the kids were stuffed and Mom was happy they’d had a wonderfully healthy meal.
We’d been to a couple of Mongolian BBQ places before but only some drab mom and pop shops that were low on variety and cleanliness. BD’s had a festive and fun atmosphere, was sparkling clean, and had a ton of choices to put in your bowl. The kids and I loved it so much that when we arrived back in Chicago at the end of our trip they begged me to see if there was another BD’s anywhere near by. There was, in Naperville which is about 30 minutes outside of Chicago and so after a 2000 mile loop, we got back in the car and drove another 30 minutes in heavy traffic just to have it again. If that doesn’t speak volumes about how good it was, then I don’t know what will. BD’s please come to Southern California…We love you and give you a huge thumbs up!
