The South is wonderfully lush and beautiful. From the green Kudzu plant that covers everything, to the smoky BBQ, to the twangy accents peppered with “y’all,” you know you’re in a culturally rich, interesting, and unique place. We were very excited to explore, but really had no idea what to expect. When I think of Georgia and the Carolinas, I think of lemonade on the porch, biscuits and grits, and weeping willow trees. I also think of the slavery and the Civil War. We experienced and learned about all of these, and so much more that I hadn’t associated with southern states, like colonists and the revolutionary war. There are some amazing cities in these parts and we truly enjoyed exploring them. Hello, I have a 5 year old and I want to visit all 50 states with her. My question is, is 5 to young to begin our expedition?

Not at all, I started when my youngest was 5 and it was great. We started out in Washington and Oregon with mostly sites having to do with nature. Little kids can get and understand that much better than say the Civil War which will be more suited toward an older child. Just remember that their attention spans will be limited and make sure there are enough fun activities for stuff their age. Boat rides, zoos, kids museums and stuff like that are particularly fun for little ones.
