Hi Alisa – i’m looking ahead to our 50th state next summer which will be Alaska. Everybody else does a cruise, but you didn’t. I’d love to hear why you decided not to cruise. Thanks!

      Hi Nicole,
Wow!!! Congrats on getting to 49. I am so excited for you to explore Alaska, it truly is the last wild frontier. I didn’t feel I would get a truly authentic look at Alaska if I took a cruise. I just didn’t want some “canned” version getting off on crowded ports of call with all the tourists. The drives were magnificent! Interacting with Alaskans without hoards of tourists was incredible, especially in Fairbanks and Barrow. We didn’t eat at the touristy spots. It was real, and wild, and magical. I will say that a cruise is a great way to see a lot, but you won’t get the depth and breadth of Alaska. Whichever way you choose to explore, Alaska will stay with you forever and i promise will no doubt be one of your favorite states!! Keep me posted!-Alisa
