Adventure Landing (Dallas)

Texas

After an intensely serious activity learning all about the Kennedy assassination, the kids and I needed some fun and a bit of a break from the Texas heat.   We headed to Adventure Landing, another family fun center in one of the Dallas suburbs.  The kids hopped in the  bumper boats as soon as I paid the price of admission and set off soaking each other in no short order.    Next we headed to the air conditioned … [Read more...]

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza (Dallas)

Texas

While Dallas is known as a gleaming glamorous city home to some of the country's wealthiest oil barons, sadly, it is also known for is the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The kids and I made our way to The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza where literally in the road two x's mark the spot where the two shots ended the life of our 35th president.   It’s hard to imagine what happened that day, but after … [Read more...]

Arlington National Cemetery (Arlington)

Walking into Arlington National Cemetery there's a certain heaviness you feel in both your body and soul, that owes to the solemnity of the hallowed ground you are about to experience. Your chest at once fills with a sense of sadness and pride for you know the best of our nation, those who have risked life and limb for our safety and the ideals we hold dear, are resting here eternally.  Before you the seemingly … [Read more...]

City Pass: Sounds Like A Deal–But Read The Fine Print!

Spring is here and with that summer road trip plans are quickly taking shape. I am feverishly planning, and like any good road trip traveler I am looking for a deal. But as with all things in life, when shopping around there are two rules that apply-A) if something is too good to be true it usually is and B) always read the fine print...two rules that this veteran road warrior forgot in her eagerness to score … [Read more...]

Where’s Leonardo?

I'm sure you've figured out by now if you've been reading my blog, that I am a sucker for those wacky family photo opportunities and seek them out everywhere we go. One of my all time favorites was a portrait drawn by this photo booth contraption called "Leonardo" (which I'm assuming is named for Leonardo DaVinci) that we happened to discover at Adventure Landing in Dallas-a really cool family fun zone type of place … [Read more...]

Soundtrack For Trip #7: Texas

Everything in Texas is big and bold and has stars on it. That's the first impression we got as soon as we set off exploring in The Lone Star State. After seeing The Alamo early on, everything else fell into place and we understood the passion that Texans feel for their home state. From the Spanish influence in the southern regions like San Antonio and Laredo to the cowboy culture in the north in places like Fort … [Read more...]

Seavey’s Iditaride (Seward)

Alaksa is filled with wonderful and unique things to do, and one experience that was tops on our bucket list was a sled dog ride. After researching all the options, we opted for a ride at Seavey's Ididtaride.  The Seaveys are a legendary family of dog mushers with Mitch and his son Dallas both winning the race more than once. Mitch is the oldest person to ever win and his son Dallas is the youngest in addition to … [Read more...]

Texas

Texas

As another spring break approached I knew my kids did not want to sit home bored, so I thought what the heck—let’s take another short road trip. Since we knew Texas was too big to combine with another state, and the thought of Texas in the summer sun didn’t sound too appealing, I figured why not—let’s explore the Lone Star state. Although we did miss some of north Texas near Amarillo, I think we got to … [Read more...]

Backcountry Snowmobiling (Park City)

Before I get too far into this amazing and breathtaking experience, let me first mention that Backcountry Snowmobiling (click here to check out their website) really is in the back country. It's about 1 hour away from Park City on the outskirts of the tiny town of Coalville. Once off the highway and past Main street you'll head up Chalk Creek Road for about 18 miles past ranches that keep getting more and more spread … [Read more...]
