Discoverlyland USA is home to an outdoor amphitheater on the outskirts of Tulsa where they preform the musical Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! I bought tickets, thinking how cool it would be to sit outside and watch Oklahoma! IN Oklahoma. We grabbed our snack and our seats and waited for the show to start. It show started out ok, but soon enough my crew was yawning and couldn’t follow the story. I must admit, I am not a fan of musicals and I started to doze off, too. If you like live theater, then it’s a truly unique experience. If it’s not your thing, then give it a pass. As we were walking back to our car we heard this really weird buzzing sound. There in front of our feet was a huge bug we'd never seen before in our lives. It kind of looked like a big moth crossed with a grasshopper. As we watched it spinning and buzzing on the ground a gentleman came up behind us an picked it up by its wings and held it up so the kids could get a good look. He explained this was a cicada and at certain times during the summer when the conditions are right they swarm. We explained that we were from Los Angeles and we'd never seen one before. After a through examination, he let the cicada go and we piled into the car and headed back to our hotel.
UPDATE: I think this attraction is now closed as it seems they are trying to rebuild their facilities or move them to another location.
