Ohio is not somewhere I would consider as an exciting vacation destination but I have to say, exploring here was really interesting on so many levels and I would really encourage everyone to consider a road trip through the Buckeye state. The Cincinnati History Museum located in the old Cincinnati Train Station, is an incredible museum that showcases the city's history in some really unique and exciting ways. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is a wonderful and moving museum that explains the path runaway slaves would take to escape to the North to freedom. It is located here on the banks of the river on the Kentucky-Ohio border, which at one point was the dividing line between slavery and freedom. Apparently if you really want to sample the flavor of Cincinnati, you've got to try Gold Star Chili. I like chili but I am not a huge fan, however,since this IS the flavor of Cincinnati I figured we just had to try it. In doing my research, I happened upon this most unusual activity that I thought the kids (now in their teens and tweens) would get a huge kick out of and boy was I right. For an over the top original dinner, check out the most amazing grilled cheese restaurant ever…Melt Bar and Grilled! My kids and I are big fans of Adam Richman’s show, Man vs. Food (The Travel Channel). They profiled this restaurant on an episode and it looked so good, we thought we’d try it. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just the epitome of cool. Walking in, we were greeted with stage props from U2 and Pink Floyd concerts, just to name a few. I was overwhelmed as I was instantly I was taken back to my late teens watching MTV and VHI remembering the U2 video with those Russian cars. As state capitol buildings go, the Ohio State Capitol Building is nice, but not spectacular-at least compared to some of the others we've seen. The rotunda is pretty in muted shades of rose and aqua but it just feels like it's missing a little pizzazz-you know what I mean, sugar and spice and everything nice. If you are like me, the only place you would associate with the Wright Brothers is Kitty Hawk in North Carolina.
