Oregon is such a beautiful and peaceful place where one of the few places where man and nature seem to be in harmony. Oregon presented many beautiful sites to take in and many opportunities for learning about things we take for granted in our daily life. One example as we were driving down to Tillamook through the forest, we noticed the abundance of large green Fir trees. These trees are logged for the lumber that is used in home building. We saw lots of trucks stacked with logs on their way to the sawmill and it was a great opportunity to have a conversation about using natural resources and where they come from.
As we traveled along the coast we stopped to peer out at many of the beautiful viewpoints along the way. There's so much wildlife to see especially sea lions and some incredible shoreline views. Look out to the pacific ocean and maybe you'll see a whale tail or a puff of spray from a blowhole.
Portland was an awesome city! The spirit of miners and loggers rests there, lending a down-home earthiness to the city. If you go, take time to explore the cuisine as well as the many activities. Because we were limited in time we did not get to do enough here, but do your research—you will find lots to love about Portland and all of Oregon.
