The Mississippi State Capitol Building is located in Jackson which has a reputation for being a pretty tough town. We were told to be careful where we went but honestly, the area around the capitol building was lovely, calm and peaceful. The building itself is a beautiful structure with the traditional dome and gold topper with the Parthenon like header on top of massive columns.
Inside, the building is very decorative in a southern belle kind of way in muted colors. What is a little weird is that feminine decorative design is crossed with vegas-like lighting. Lots and lots of round bulbs in rows all lit up. There are some really pretty stained glass panels. What we all thought were the most beautiful though were the legislative chambers. When you walk in, take a look at the ceiling, the stained glass is just breathtaking.
