As another spring break approached I knew my kids did not want to sit home bored, so I thought what the heck—let’s take another short road trip. Since we knew Texas was too big to combine with another state, and the thought of Texas in the summer sun didn’t sound too appealing, I figured why not—let’s explore the Lone Star state. Although we did miss some of north Texas near Amarillo, I think we got to understand the overall Texan spirit and had an amazing time to boot (yup, pun intended). In San Antonio we experienced the Alamo which served as the lens through which everything else we saw and experienced in Texas made sense. Austin presented it's own independent spirit in it's lively art scene. I think Fort Worth was our favorite whether it was watching the longhorns or kicking up our heels at Billy Bob's. Dallas, Houston and Corpus Christie also each had something unique and different to teach us. Texas is rich with both American and Mexican heritage which combine in a unique and special way to give it a flavor all it's own. Texas beckoned us to embrace it's bold character and larger than life spirit and we were more than happy to oblige. If you are inspired to explore Texas, I urge you to do the same, put your cowboy boots on, do a little line dancing, eat some BBQ and discover all that Texas has to offer.
