Cedar Point Park This park bills itself as “the best amusement park in the world.” I don’t know if I’d go that far, but it was a lot of fun and the kids got their ya-ya’s out on the roller coasters and other rides. Cedar Point’s true claim to fame, though, is that it’s home to some of the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coasters in the world. There is an aerial tram that goes from one end of … [Read more...]

U.S. Space and Rocket Center (Huntsville)
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center was our fourth space museum that we'd visited on our Explore All 50 project. Many of the exhibits were things that we'd seen before but there were plenty of others that were unique enough to make this visit interesting. One highlight was going inside a model of the interior of the space shuttle. We got to see how the astronauts sleep, eat, and even use the bathroom in space (pretty … [Read more...]
Little Rock High School National Historic Site Visitor Center (Little Rock)
The kids and I were amazed to see that Little Rock High School still functions as a regular High School especially since its place in history was cemented when the National Guard had to escort 9 African American students onto the campus so they could attend classes when segregation was ruled unconstitutional. This was one of the battlefields where the war for civil rights was waged—and won. Right around the … [Read more...]
Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe (Key West)
The first thing that catches your eye about Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe is the bright yellow and lime green colors of the little shop beckoning you to come inside and try Key West's most famous tart and tangy treat. Inside we found all kinds of delicious sounding key lime products like key lime mustard dipping sauce, key lime cooler cookies ( I used to LOVE lemon cooler cookies when I was a kid), spicy key lime … [Read more...]
World Museum of Mining (Butte)
Mining played a huge roll in Montana's history and you can learn all about it at the World Museum of Mining. Seems like my kids were struck with mining fever just like the miners who came here long ago and so they could not wait to get here to learn about the equipment and the techniques necessary to hit the mother lode. Walking around we saw the massive tools and machinery used to mine the various minerals that are … [Read more...]
Historic District (Savannah)
The Savannah Historic District is a National Historic Landmark. Laid out in a grid plan, the blocks are full of great examples of 18th and 19th century architecture.. The district encompasses the original town plan laid out in 1733 by Gen. James E. Oglethorpe, founder of the British colony of Georgia. Most of the original squares, which feel like mini plazas or parks, remain and each have their own unique focal … [Read more...]
