Every guide book said that the Corn Palace was an absolutely do not miss, so we couldn't wait to get there. When we arrived, we checked out the outside of the building which is a collection of mosaics of various scenes made from different shades of dried corn kernels. You can't drive through South Dakota without going to the South Dakota State Capitol Building in Pierre. For some reason that state capitol always stuck out in my mind when I was memorizing the 50 state capitols in grade school. Nestled amidst over 250 acres of towering pines and rolling meadows just eight miles south of Rapid City lies Bear Country U.S.A. Rapid City is a great location not only because it's close to lots of attractions but also because it plays host to the Central States Fair. Walking through the Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns felt like we were walking through a giant Geode, and you know what, we probably were. This incredible cave holds the world’s largest display of dog-tooth spar crystal, which look like diamonds as all their facets are reflected in some of the pools in the cave. We stopped in Sturgis to visit the Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame. Sturgis is also home to one of the biggest gathering of motorcycle riders in the entire country—the Sturgis Rally. All the guidebooks we use to plan our trips said Wall Drug is a not to be missed stop.
